Why Does Ownership Matter?

with Ownership comes a real voice

with Ownership comes transparency

with ownership comes economic participation

With the right owner, function and utility can be the number 1 priority, releasing the ownership pursuit from purely profit leading to better societal outcomes and an alternate reason to infinite accumulation.

The Current System is not fit for purpose

The free market, the current system, always leads to monopolies and wealth concentrations, its not broken, it is doing what it was designed to do, its just not fit for purpose, not for a modern ethical society. Those with the most money buy the most assets whether it makes sense for them to own or not, creating dysfunction and inequality.

This problem is geometric and so without intervention one person might own the world soon!

In 2025 the Billionaires of Australia (48 of them) had their wealth increase at a rate of $600,000 each day per billionaire. Thanks for the Stat Oxfam

My mission is to create a new system that prioritises who owns what, not based on wealth and who can pay the most, but on function.

My Journey

After 15 years in finance, a simple question changed my perspective: "Why do you do what you do?, thanks Pier" My initial answer was to make money, but that response didn't feel right when I said it and the more it sat with me I felt hollow.

Since then, I have sought true meaning within finance, because it is the most powerful human made system and has great potential to make an amazing fair society. I have discovered through genuine enquiry that its essence should be about functional ownership.

Imagine a Better System

Imagine if the people using the local energy network actually owned it, then we could transition to renewables and community batteries versus currently fighting ever rising tarrifs for private equity owners.

Imagine if everyone owned the house they lived in versus high income professions being able to borrow millions of dollars from banks and buy 1, 2......5 investment properties, renting to  low salary folk such as police, nurses, chefs, small business owners...

Imagine if local neighbours owned their local shops and could decide what shops to have to service the local area versus having high net worths charging premium rents and getting real estate agents, mortgage brokers and other less functional but highly profitable tenants.

How will this Better System Happen?

Private equity is so fast and so resourced, due to the geometric wealth magnification of the current historic system, community ownership cannot compete. So we need government intervention & incentives to level the playing field. Aristotles first prinple of justice is treat equals equally and unequals unequally

There is currently no legal ownership mechanism for Communities to own an asset together, we need the Government to legislate this ownership structure

We need large corporate owners to be willing to try, evaluate a small portion of community ownership in their projects.

We need to educate communities, let them know what is possible and help them assemble.

ABOVE ALL we need to act sooner and larger. There are some attempts at correcting this but they are incremental (Political changes are incremental, philanthropists act slowly to see results and adjust funding incrementally) and this is a geometric problem. My beleif is in 50 years we will certainly wish we had of done a lot more, a lot quicker
